Architectural Concept for the Atomic Energy Pavilion on the territory of the Exhibition of achievements of national economy (OJSV VDNH) Architectural Image. Having rolled in the middle of the park the giant spheres create the image of a fantastic atom model. The power of nature combines with the power of energy in the created composition. The interaction of symbols expresses the idea of the pure energy that serves the needs of the mankind without destroying the environment. The emphasis on the ecology is highly important for the first overview. The spaciousness and purity become the main impressions, and the exterior of the pavilion arouses the desire to come inside. The conception does not determine the final arrangement but provides a clear structure of the dialogue of the parties concerned. The comparison of different proportions allows a person to passage from a real environment to a microcosm. A sharp alteration of spaces along the whole way in the pavilion deepens an impression of balance between two realities. Space Planning. The pavilion is divided sharply into an underground part and a visible superstructure. The visitor is met by the transparent domes in the form of spheres. The most impressive exposition can be seen through them; separate entrances lead to a restaurant, a café and the outcropping service lines. The glass enclosures also serve for lightning of the lower spaces. The most part of the housing capacity is placed underground that enhances the mysterious feeling and creates the contrast of impressions. The radial efferent structure put on the projection of the spheres determines the planning structure. The central vertical is the transport axis of the pavilion and has the main semantic meaning. It unites all levels. This vertical provides a visual connection with the help of which the daylight comes to all floors. The service lines such as elevators, stairs, escalators, ramps are places here. This space is filled with informative electronic devices. A small sphere (diameter is 36 m) seems to hang within the main dome (diameter is 36 m). This symbolic nucleus is supported by three elevator cores. One can get to the upper viewpoint (the height is 22 m) by means of a hupaithric panoramic ramp which is provided with informative screens. There is a wide spiraling ramp inside the nucleus. The main hall of neuromatrix is placed here – a space without square corners, surfaces and determined positions. The entrance inside the pavilion is placed at ground level inside the main dome near the neuromatrix vertical. Services to visitors are provided on the level -1 (the mark -4, 80). Cloakrooms, public toilets, a shop and a lower level of the café are placed on this level which is connected with floors of a restaurant above ground by means of stairs. The display area of the lower levels is well seen from the entrance hall. The daylight comes to the level -2 (the mark -9, 00). The upper entrance to the conference hall, a creative lab and a reading hall are located here. There is a main exposition “The nuclear projects of the USSR and Russia” with large-sized exhibits and the lower entrance to the conference hall with attended areas on the level -3 (the mark -13,20). The thematic exhibitions, a museum depository and two-level parking are located on the level -4 (the mark -17, 40). Landscape. A green roof of the underground pavilion appears to be an extension of the surrounding park. The alternation of a grass lawn and different sorts of paving creates a carpet look. The concentric rings of the main domes unite the whole composition. The paths for walking seem to be electron orbits. The surrounding trees are left untouched, new plants are planted on the green roof. Benches for rest are included into the general landscape view. The composition of the atomic model is completed by small sculptural spheres. The night illumination of the area is comported with the design of the domes and dome lights. Multimedia. The night illumination consists of several components. The main image is transferred by powerful projection units to the spherical surface of the “nucleus”. A LED reticle is mounted on the outer surface of the main dome along the ribs. It creates the additional image. The same reticle is mounted on the small domes. The non-transparent surfaces of every sphere are illuminated with the lamps.
